Sport Engagement Officer – Young People

At Centrepoint we’re expanding our highly successful sports programmes to use a variety of activities (in addition to sport e.g. Arts, Music, Gaming) to engage with our young people. We’re well established in London and now this new position, reporting to the Engagement Manager, will mean you’ll help support and establish this key engagement strategy around the Northeast.

You’ll work closely with other teams within Centrepoint to help guide the young people into training or further development activities. 

What you’ll be doing...

  • Build relationships across the business to ensure Young People can access all Engagement activities.
  • Work with Comms Team to ensure all Engagement activity is being effectively promoted, both internally and externally.
  • Co-ordinate regular Support Engagement days
  • Monitor and evaluate all activities to maximise effectiveness and achieve KPIs
  • Co-deliver all Centrepoint Team England activity, including Training Camps and International activities.
  • Co-ordinate the recruitment and leadership of volunteers across a variety of programmes
  • Proactively seek new opportunities and develop existing partnerships and engagement activities.
  • Deliver all North East-based Centrepoint Training Centres, including Centrepoint Sport programmes with Sunderland FC Foundation (and potentially Newcastle FC Foundation).
  • Ensure safety of all participants, volunteers and staff at all activities
  • Support Progressions Officer in the provision of relevant progression pathways for Engagement programme participants, with a focus on the Centrepoint Works offer, complimented by quality assured external partner programmes

What we’d be looking for from you...

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective relationships with a wide range of people volunteers, staff and members of the public.
  • Awareness of guidelines, policies and procedures relating to further education, training and volunteer management.
  • Ideally a Qualification in adult education training or sports related qualification; definitely experience in delivering training
  • Experience of working with people who have experienced social-exclusion
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills including planning, monitoring and evaluation, prioritisation and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Computer literate including word and excel
  • Understanding of the needs of people experiencing homelessness
  • and able to transfer Centrepoint’s values in all work with participants, volunteers, colleagues and stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of completing risk assessment and general health & safety
  • Responds calmly and effectively to challenging situations
  • A self starter with excellent problem solving skills
  • Using our values of Energy, Focus, Accountability, Humility and Integrity and being Entrepreneurial, you’ll be able to display these in your everyday work and interactions to find new and improved ways of working and helping end youth homelessness.

Our office is based in Sunderland city centre (and potentially within Sunderland FC), with frequent travel around the Northeast and occasional overnight stays further afield.

  • £21,511 to £23,661 per annum depending on the experience you’ll be able to bring to the position
