Academy Sports Therapist - MK Dons Milton Keynes

Reporting to: Senior Academy Physiotherapist

Salary: £15,500 per annum  

Contract: Permanent Full Time

Hours per week: 37.5

Overall Objective:

  • Provide evidence-based assessment, treatment, rehabilitation & injury prevention plans for academy players. 
  • Provide pitch-side emergency first aid at training sessions and matches for schoolboy players.

Job Description

Main Objectives

  • To provide evidence-based assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and injury prevention plans for all academy players as required.
  • Provide emergency pitch-side first aid to academy teams on match days and evening training sessions.
  • Maintain up to date & accurate medical records of assessments, treatments & rehabilitations in line with guidance set out by HCPC/SST.
  • Liaise & work alongside the Senior Physiotherapist, coordinating medical care for schoolboy players as required.
  • Assist with periodic health screening for Academy players as required.
  • Be a full & active member of the Sports Science & Medicine team, contributing to team meetings & in-house CPD events.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum BSc Physiotherapy (registered with HCPC)/BSc Sports Therapy (member of the Society of Sports Therapists).
  • Candidates must be passionate about working in football and looking to gain valuable experience working with elite, developing athletes.
  • Must be innovative & forward thinking, with the drive to assist with & improve the protocols already in place at MK Dons FC Academy.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a football environment (as a student or qualified sports therapist).
  • Previous experience with adolescent athletes.
  • Previous pitch side / trauma management experience.
  • Pitch side first aid qualification (ITMiF/IFAS).

Summary of Duties

  • Provide a high quality therapy service to Academy players; conducting evening clinics at schoolboy training sessions four evenings per week.
  • Provide pitch-side first aid at all Schoolboy home fixtures and training sessions.
  • Liaise effectively with the academy medical and coaching teams; reporting all injuries, outcome measures and treatment plans to the Senior Academy Physiotherapist as required.
  • Conduct periodic health screenings for schoolboy players in line with Academy protocol.
  •  Implement auditable injury prevention plans for schoolboy players with assistance from the Senior Academy Physiotherapist.
  • Assist with the implementation of warm up routines in-line with the highly evidenced FIFA 11+ protocol for schoolboy players.
  • Strict adherence to club safeguarding of children & GDPR policies.
  • Be a full and active member of our Sports Science & Medicine internal continued professional development programme.
  • Flexible working will be required in order to cover the demands of the role. This includes unsociable hours at evenings and weekends.
  • This role will be primarily based at the MK Dons training ground and stadium MK. It will also involve regular travel to away games. In service training will also be provided to aid the successful candidate’s personal and professional development.
