Health & Physical Activity Manager - Durham Contract (Peterlee and Seaham Leisure Centre)

Reports to: Contract Manager & Sport, Health & Wellbeing Manager

Responsible for: Officers, Coaches and Assistants and Volunteers

JOB PURPOSE

The role of Health & Physical Activity Manager is to work towards the company’s mission and vision, with particular focus on health and wellbeing, physical activity and sport. Working alongside our client and a range of local partners the role will take responsibility for the growth and development of a health and wellbeing, physical activity and sport delivery plan to provide for local need. The role will oversee and manage a range of programmes and initiatives for the benefit of 1Life service users and the wider community. This will involve the management of a range of staff, coaches and volunteers as well as holding responsibility for securing funding and sponsorship.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. To work towards the 1Life health and wellbeing, physical activity and sport strategy, commitments and products.
  2. To provide a range of products and services for local communities, in partnership with our clients and key local stakeholders.  To ensure projects and programmes work for the benefit of the local community and that the services we provide deliver against local need.
  3. To develop our in house services and activities to attract a wide range of people to our centres based on a more detailed understanding of the contract catchment area and demographic.  Making our facilities a key health, wellbeing and activity hub for our community and creating a facility that everyone can access and enjoy.
  4. To work with site teams to ensure our facilities are well programmed to maximise participation and reduce white space.
  5. To work with the fitness team and local health partners to develop the 1Life Referral Scheme across each site.
  6. To help sites and managers drive income and revenue via projects, programmes, events and initiatives.
  7. To engage with clubs and organisations within our facilities and support them to develop and grow.
  8. To become a ‘local expert’ for the locality you serve, including demographics, provision, facilities, health inequalities and participation.
  9. To develop positive working relationships with a wide range of organisations including, but not limited to, regional national governing bodies of sport, public health commissioner teams, health and wellbeing groups, county sports partnerships, local sports development teams, local community sports networks, county councils (where appropriate) and local GP’s.
  10. To work in partnership towards common aims, objectives and priorities of the organisations named above.
  11. To source funding and sponsorship to develop the contracts health & wellbeing health and wellbeing, physical activity and sport offer for the benefit of our communities.
  12. Ensure attendance at relevant local meetings, forums and networks.
  13. To ensure projects and programmes work towards national priorities and agendas where applicable.
  14. Ensure that thorough monitoring and evaluation takes place across all initiatives to show the impact and outcomes of our programmes and the company as a whole.
  15. To work towards specific KPIs which will include areas such as data capture, reputation building, engaging new people, securing funding and income generation.
  16. To work with all departments and show others how health and wellbeing, physical activity and sport can complement their areas and help them to flourish.
  17. To champion and lead 1Life employee health and wellbeing initiatives.
  18. To provide leadership and manage a range of officers, coaches, leaders and volunteers, inspiring them to achieve excellence.
  19. To support the wider company in relation to national funding bids and business tenders as and when required.
  20. To support the Operational Director and the wider company in the development of the health and wellbeing function as and when required.
