Responsible to: Ice Rink Office Manager (maternity cover)
Overall job purpose: To welcome visitors and guests to Alexandra Palace Ice Rink and deliver excellent customer service in support of ice rink operations
Key internal relationships: Ice Rink Stewards; Ice Rink Duty Managers
Key duties and responsibilities
- Process customer payments for public sessions accurately and efficiently ensuring that the correct money is taken so that tills reconcile at the end of the day. This includes setting up tills for transactions and cashing up.
- Provide an exemplary front of house function by assisting customers with general enquiries face to face, via email and on the phone (relating to both the ice rink and Alexandra Palace’s wider activity) promoting excellent customer service. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
-Welcoming customers and offering directions
-Answering and directing incoming calls
-Responding to customer query emails
-Making customers aware of the latest ice rink offers and events
-Logging lost property
-Being able to talk about the HLF restoration project
- Handle birthday party and group bookings from initial enquiry through to event delivery ensuring effective communication of all relevant information including payment details, numbers, menu choices and any special requirements so that the booking runs smoothly
- Maintain a clean and tidy working environment and make sure that information leaflets are accurately stocked so that customers feel welcomed and informed
- Support the ice rink operations team with ad hoc duties as directed by ice rink management. This may include assisting with skate hire, acting in a health and safety capacity at ice hockey matches, counting floats on ice rink special event days and tidying operational areas.
Person Specification
Essential
Education / Qualifications / Membership
- Educated to GCSE level with A-C GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
Experience
- Experience of working directly with customers
Skills and Knowledge
- Confident using Microsoft Office including Word and Outlook
- Good attention to detail
- Team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to speak confidently to a variety customers
- Reliable
- Punctual
- Available to work occasional bank holidays, weekends and evening on a shift rota
Desirable
- Experience handling cash
- Experience using a booking system
- Experience working in a leisure venue
- Knowledge of Alexandra Park and Palace’s operations and events
- Understanding of health and safety processes and procedures
