The Active Lifestyle Manager will be based at South Kensington Campus. You will be responsible for planning and delivering a series of events and long term programmes to engage students, staff (and where appropriate local community partners) in sport and physical activity as part of the wider wellbeing agenda.

You will line manage the Active Lifestyles Team, (six members of staff) to deliver physical activity based interventions across Sport Imperial facilities and all College campuses and sites. You will also be a key point of contact both internally and externally for the development of opportunities around improving wellbeing in line with the sport strategy and explore opportunities to secure additional resource to support this goal.

To be considered for this post you must have extensive experience of working within a fast-paced, multi-site environment and have experience of effectively managing and providing leadership for staff.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To provide a lead role within Sport Imperial to develop a comprehensive sport and physical activity participation programme
  • To line manage the Active Lifestyles Team to ensure the gym needs are met and resource is maximised across all Sport Imperial sites
  • To manage the implementation and coordination of all elements of the participation programme in liaison with internal colleagues and external partners
  • To lead on the management and delivery of specific projects and events
  • To establish where appropriate intramural leagues, tournaments and events to increase and sustain involvement in sport
  • To work with other departments in College and the Student Union to develop and progress a volunteering strategy for Imperial College London thinking specifically about sports engagement
  • To create and sustain development links through Sport Imperial and its facilities, with College sports clubs to deliver services to the College population.
  • To manage the delivery of any national or government initiatives that may relate to strategic aims or funding requirements i.e. Sport England funding.
  • To manage a coaching team including temporary or casual personnel employed for tournaments and events, coaching courses and schemes etc, demonstrating team leadership and motivation and ensuring all procedures meet current recruitment guidelines and principals
  • To liaise with other partner agencies providing lead officer and specialist developmental support to governing bodies, priority sports clubs and community groups

Essential requirements

  • Experience of managing sports activities
  • Experience of working in a higher education environment
  • Experience of Team Management and ability to train, motivate and supervise staff
  • Experience of working in the fitness industry
  • Experience of running sports/fitness clubs or programmes
  • Understanding of Equal Opportunities within the context of a student leisure environment
  • Knowledge of how the Health & Safety Legislation apply to a sports environment
  • Able to communicate effectively with a variety of customers
  • Administrative/organisational skills, time planning

Contract Details:

  • Grade: Operational Services Level 3a
  • Type of Contract: 1 x Full time open ended position
  • Hours: 5 days over 7, the  standard working week consists of 35 hours per week
  • Location: Ethos Sports Centre, South Kensington
