About The Infrastructure Team

The Infrastructure Engineering team design, develop and operate all infrastructure used by Tesco Technology across our data centres, offices, stores and distribution centres. This encompasses multiple domains; private and public cloud, network, end-user computing, CI/CD and monitoring toolkit. This includes both 3rd party and internally developed infrastructure applications and infrastructure that support the wider Tesco business.
Key activities include:
Designs, develops and operates the Infrastructure platforms that allow development teams and business colleagues to consume infrastructure.
Designs, develops and operates the automation to allow Infrastructure platforms to be consumed in a controlled, auditable and repeatable manner.
Setting the strategy, objectives and high-level plans for infrastructure.
Works with development teams to collaborate in creating appropriate infrastructure solutions.
Evaluating partners, software and hardware and finding the right mix to deliver the strategy.
Driving innovation at Tesco through infrastructure transformation.
Defining and overseeing standards and simplification across the estate.
Designing, delivering and operating new and re-usable infrastructure solutions.
The Infrastructure team are supporting both the current Infrastructure and also the work required to continue the transformation of Tesco Technologies Infrastructure to modern platforms that can be easily consumed through self-service APIs, automatically handle failures and use best of breed modern technologies.



The Role Technical Programme Manager

Technical Programme Managers (TPMs) deliver complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering and business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the roles key responsibilities and measures:

Deliver programmes/projects with business and/or technical risks
Deliver upgrades / improvements to Infrastructure components in a large environment
Optimise or use a standard programme delivery methodology for delivering programme goals (e.g. agile, waterfall, iterative)
Bring together, coordinate and energise virtual technology teams to deliver programme goals
Ensures programme deliverables are sustainable in the longer term by the wider Infrastructure teams.
Create and track a plan to deliver the programme / project goals, including all stages from inception through to implementation and into ongoing support
Understand trade-offs and resulting impacts; make impacts visible to Product, Infrastructure or Engineering for the right decision to be made
Have good knowledge of Engineering best practices or practical infrastructure implementations so that you can appreciate delivery challenges
Understand technology concepts, grasp new ones quickly and appreciate their implications on delivery
Build positive relationships with suppliers & external stakeholders to deliver infrastructure or professional services
Coach peers and other roles, teaching where required, on methodologies and programme / agile management tools

Key Skills and Experience

Youll need to have demonstrated experience of:

Have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering technology and/or infrastructure projects; having done so across multiple teams in multiple geographies. Your track record should include examples with:
o High levels of complexity, dependencies & significant business risk.
o Large scale infrastructure either centralised or in a distributed environment.
o Managing internal and external teams/suppliers, build high performing virtual teams and maintaining ongoing relationships.
Experience and understanding of agile techniques to deliver world beating products
A broad understanding and / or experience of infrastructure technologies & able to foresee the impact on dependencies, delivery timelines and implementation plans
A deep understanding and/or experience of engineering best practices or practical infrastructure implementations so that you can appreciate delivery challenges
Experience of building credible relationships influencing management and leadership teams
Experience of financial management and reporting on large programmes.
