Assistant Wellbeing & Fitness Manager - Champneys Health Resort Tring

Reposts to: Wellbeing and Fitness Manager Directions, Resort General Manager

Responsible for: Wellbeing and Fitness Team

Champneys is a destination health spa chain with resorts and day spas located in the English counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire and Hampshire.

The Assistant Wellbeing and Fitness Manager will assist team members and the Wellbeing and Fitness Manager in the day to day running of the Department/Club facility and ensure that the guests/members needs are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To supervise staff and running of the Department in the absence of management. To ensure that all problems are solved with the guests/members interests being your first concern.
  2. To work as part of a team in achieving Department aims, and review on a regular basis.
  3. Assist in guest scheduling, staff clock reports and oversee staff work rotas and daily schedules.
  4. To implement all Department procedures relevant to the highest professional standard set by the Department. Assist in reviewing and updating all standards and procedures relevant to the Department.
  5. To ensure that company customer care standards are maintained when dealing with guests/members. To act as a role model, demonstrating professional conduct at all time
  6. Assess Department revenue / budgets and complete monthly revenue/commission reports. Review and report to Manager monthly.
  7. To assist the Manager in maintaining, developing, and implementing new fitness and wellbeing services to the guests and Club Members.
  8. Delivery of a variety of classes and services.
  9. To actively promote and sell all fitness and wellbeing services to raise the profile of the department and demonstrate its value to guests and members.
  10. Attend weekly operational management meetings and contribute as appropriate.
  11. To assist the Manager in advertising, recruiting and inducting all staff.
  12. To be involved in developing and monitoring all staff training programmes. Identify staff training requirements through staff assessments, job chats and the appraisal system with the Manager.
  13. To help co-ordinate the Wellbeing programmes and ensure department/resort awareness.
  14. To arrange, attend and actively participate in monthly staff meetings ensuring agendas and minutes are kept and circulated.
  15. To maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for the enjoyment and welfare of guests and members, in accordance the company’s health and safety legislation.
  16. To ensure all daily checks of health and safety, cleanliness and stock control are carried out in all areas of the Department.
  17. Assist the Manager with Department/Club administration at their discretion.
  18. Any other tasks/duties as may be required by the Wellbeing and Fitness Manager/ Director from time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

  • REPS 3 instructor including two of the following: Exercise to Music or equivalent, Gym Instructor award, Personal Training Award or Degree.
  • Good overall standard of general education.

Experience

  • Significant previous experience in a supervisory / management role in the fitness and wellbeing industry/health resort environment, providing high quality customer service.

Skills

  • Gym instruction, all fitness testing and personal training skills and basic class formats: Aqua, Body Conditioning, Stretch, Circuits and Spinning.
  • Gym instruction, all scheduled class formats (exc. specialist classes), and basic fitness testing and personal training skills.
  • Competent in lifestyle talks, basic nutrition and staff training.
  • Management skills in order to supervise and manage a team and the running of the department on a daily basis, deputising for the Wellbeing and Fitness Manager.
  • Ability to use all Microsoft packages and other systems to a good standard.
  • Demonstrable customer service skills and the desire to go the extra mile to ensure guests have a memorable, high quality experience.
  • An excellent team worker who is reliable and demonstrates good timekeeping.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure effective working relationships within and across departments.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as an excellent command of the English language.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Knowledge, background and passion for the fitness and leisure industry.

  • A polite, friendly, welcoming and helpful nature.
  • Exceptionally well groomed and presented and dress in full company uniform at all times.
  • The ability to work with discretion and in confidence, respecting guest privacy.
