Commis Sommelier - Forest Side, Grasmere

Forest Side, Grasmere is in the heart of the English Lake District, sitting against a backdrop of fells in 43 acres of gardens and grounds. Acquired in 2014 and totally refurbished in 2015 this beautiful Gothic Revival former gentleman’s residence sits in Wordsworth Country.

Listed at 30 in the Good Food Guide 2018, awarded a Michelin star in 2016 within 8 months of opening, and achieving four AA rosettes in 2017 Head Chef Kevin Tickle and his team work in tandem with the seasons to create a constantly changing menu that uses natural ingredients in their prime. We use ingredients from our own garden, picked fresh each day and delivered straight to the kitchen, alongside foraged and locally sourced produce from a range of artisan producers.

Description – Commis Sommelier:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Commis Sommelier, who we anticipate will have worked in a similar role within the hospitality industry. You will be a team player, have excellent communication skills and attention to detail to deliver outstanding quality and service.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Engage with guests in a friendly, timely, and efficient manner
  • To ensure the company’s reputation for excellent service is maintained always
  • Are passionate about delivering the highest levels of service to our guests in an engaging and informative way
  • Desire to continuously learn and improve both knowledge and skills
  • Communicate clearly, professionally and concisely
  • Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations
  • Working to a high standard
  • Ensure all beverage deliveries are distributed to the relevant parts of the business
  • Prepare the fridges by stocking and replenishing all beverage items to the required standard
  • Collaborate with the Sommeliers before and during service for all bar items required
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and conditions of the Service- and wine cellar areas over all floors
  • Ensure knowledge of drinks menus and all products therein
  • Beverage orders are of a consistently good standard and delivered in a timely manor
  • Maintain high personal standards to include uniform dress code, cleanliness and personal hygiene
  • Comply with hotel security, fire regulations and all health and safety legislation and ensuring that licensing laws are adhered to

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar level food and beverage department and/or industry
  • Previous experience of cash handling
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene Regulations & relevant licensing legislation
