Overview of the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Principal York for a Receptionist to join our Front of House Team. Your role will be to ensure all guests are welcomed to the hotel in a warm and genuine manner.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Welcoming all guests in a warm and professional manner; offering information as requested regarding the hotel, York and our surrounding areas.
• Delivering an intuitive service by anticipating guest needs.
• Checking guests in and out of the hotel through the Opera IT system, following Company procedures and ensuring all payments are processed correctly.
• Communicating with hotel colleagues to ensure all guest requests are met and wherever possible, exceeded.
• Recording early morning alarm call requests, newspaper requests, restaurant bookings etc and passing on relevant information to ensure all guest requests are delivered accurately and in a timely manner.
• Selling the hotel’s facilities including bedrooms and upgraded bedrooms, breakfast and dinner reservations, the hotel bar and leisure club facilities maximising revenue for the hotel.
• Liaising with our Reservations team to ensure bedrooms are allocated which are appropriate to the guest and their needs.
• Recording all guest feedback received and passing this on to relevant members of the hotel team.
• Balancing all petty cash and reception floats at the end of each shift and ensuring a complete and clear handover to colleagues.

The Ideal Candidate

As a Receptionist it is essential you are able to display the following:

• Our Front Office team are the first people to greet guests arriving at the hotel, and the last to see our guests before they depart. Therefore, immaculate personal presentation is a must, as is a friendly and outgoing approach to give the very best first and last impressions.
• Previous experience working on a hotel reception is desirable, but is not essential as full training can be given.
• Previous experience in a guest facing role within a quality working environment and this should have involved the need to deal effectively with guest complaints.
• This is a busy guest-focused role, so ability to multi task, work on your own initiative and stay calm under pressure are all essential.
• Opera trained is desirable however not essential.
