Apprentice Greenkeeper - Donnington Valley Golf Club & Deanwood Park Golf Club

You will be working within a team initially working on basic green keeping duties and then being introduced to all golf course equipment and machinery. By working within a small team over time you will gain experience and be involved in all areas of golf course maintenance and management. You must be prepared for early mornings and working in all weather conditions. The work is physically challenging and a good level of fitness will be advantageous. You will work with and be trained by successful green keepers with many years of experience in varied roles within green keeping.

You job role will include,

• Monitor and Maintain health, safety and security in the workplace

• Switching and brushing
• Mowing banks
• Mowing rough
• Mowing semi rough
• Mowing surrounds and approaches
• Mowing tees
• Mowing greens
• Mowing fairways
• Scarifying/verticutting turf
• Driving a tractor with implements
• Undertaking routine machine maintenance
• Preparing machinery for use
• Preparing machinery for storage
• Preparing ground to establish plants on the golf course

Your training: As part of the course you will attending Berkshire College of Agriculture on a day release scheme as well as take the first at work course and the PA1 NPTC certificate.

During your time at Donnington Valley Golf Club you will be collating evidence of learning, be observed and receive training as to how we do things. This is averaged over a 12 - 18 month period and includes time spent at the beginning of the programme completing ‘sign-up’ & functional skills assessment. An assessor will visit you in the work-place every six weeks. The programme is day release at Berkshire College of Agriculture.
