Buying Manager - Procurement - Goods Not For Resale (GNFR) - Purchasing

About the role:

Join our GNFR (Goods Not For Resale) buying team and you will be joining a hard working group of 50 likeminded procurement specialists who collectively control £2.2bn of Asda's GNFR spend. Across the team we are involved with and support virtually every area of the business, whether it be Packaging, Supplies, Utilities, Capital Equipment, IT or many different Services areas such as Marketing, People or Logistics to name a few, not forgetting our Stores.

This role within the Marketing Procurement team offers real diversity and challenge to a Buyer. The Marketing Procurement team manage a spend in excess of £200m p.a. You will be leading the procurement of services across a range of categories such as Media Planning and Buying, Creative, Print, Point of Sale, Digital, Photography, TV Production, Market Insight and Research and Public Relations.

The ins and outs:
  • Buying primarily marketing services through either our own rapid or strategic buying toolkits and processes delivering best value solutions
  • Leading commercial and contractual negotiations
  • Liaising cross-functionally where stakeholder engagement is key to delivering best value on products and services
  • Helping the stakeholder to set complex service specifications and challenging specifications where appropriate
  • Driving effective and appropriate levels of supplier management across the Marketing supply base to extract maximum value from supplier relationships
  • Designing, communicating and executing Marketing category strategies
  • Creating, planning, maintaining and delivering buying activity plans
  • Ensuring your goods and service solutions are fit for purpose and deliver sustainable savings to the bottom line
  • Working with Finance to validate savings and achieve sign off
  • Utilising management information, market intelligence and procurement tools to deliver the best value for the business
  • Support the wider Procurement strategy and development
  • Liaising with our in-house and external Legal teams to ensure contracts are delivered in a timely manner and stored appropriately
  • Liaising and working with our colleagues in Walmart, to share best practise, leverage our scale and support regional and global procurement opportunities
  • Business travel to visit suppliers and attend industry conferences/forums as required
What you'll need:
  • A proven track record in buying, preferably within retail and/or services procurement
  • A self-starting drive and tenacity with a passion for buying
  • The ability to negotiate confidently, effectively and creatively whether it be tactical or strategic
  • The ability to work cross functionally, to credibly influence and communicate to stakeholders at all levels, up to and including the Chief Marketing Officer
  • Strong analytical abilities and commercial acumen
  • Sound Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create and exploit powerful MI
  • Ability to identify opportunities and deliver sustainable value
  • A desire to strive for excellence and a commitment to self-development
  • To be eSourcing proficient
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing (CIPS) accreditation an advantage but not essential
