Quantity Surveyor/ Cost Manager - Client Side

About the role:

As the in-House Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager you will be involved delivering Asda's Capex programme, ensuring we get overall best value through our Procurement routes and supply chain achieving optimum commerciality including mitigation of cost, contractual and legal risk. The role is a key part of the Asda Property and Construction function.

It will involve setting the strategic commercial direction for your work area working with the implementation teams, reporting and forecasting on all capex Cost, legal, contractual and Risk issues to the Business to ensure compliance with best practice and corporate governance. You will be responsible for cost management and cost challenge of schemes through the external supply chain within an agreed work area of the current £350m capex plan.

The ins and outs:

As the in-house Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager, you will manage and drive the commercial agenda for your work stream, sign off and support the construction teams on project delivery workflows. You will be responsible for:

• Be the commercial lead for your area of the Capital Plan
• Helping set the Commercial Strategy for the Capex work area across contractors and consultants
• Implementation of Commercial/Procurement strategy for Capex Work area, including commercial frameworks where appropriate, including signoff at commercial gateways
• Implementation of legal and contractual best practice, including contract, orders, warranties and Contractual letters including legal advice and support for dispute resolution
• Department lead on all FCPA process, documentation and sign off for the construction and property departments
• Risk management and reporting on a scheme and business level
• Reporting to the Business and Walmart on Cost, Benchmarking and best practice
• Support Implementation Teams in cost estimating, capex forecasting and scheme delivery of Capex Work Area
• Support Finance teams including capital allowance, asset write offs, Capex management and providing construction cost information for evaluation
• Audit and Governance Support to Legal and Business controls processes
• Implementation of general Cost Management of all program activity, including cost management reporting and forecasting of capex and revex and cost reduction programs.
• Managing, coaching and developing External Cost Management companies. Responsible for external QS performance, ensuring they are delivering an efficient and value added Commercial function

What you'll need:

• Ideally, you will be RICS qualified or equivalent
• Have a proven track record working in a similar, client side role
• You will be organised, able to work well in a team within a fast paced environment, be comfortable interacting and directing external Supply base as well as reporting to all levels of the business
