As a Deputy Camp Manager, you'll work alongside the Summer Camp Manager and it will be down to you to make sure all participants have a positive and enjoyable experience as well as ensuring that safeguarding and standards of delivery are in accordance with YHA policies and procedures.

The Camp will run from 29th July - 12th August 2018

  • Salary: £22,100 per annum (pro rata) + Paid induction training
  • Accommodation and Meals provided
  • Full time hours: Evening work required

Please note: The successful applicant will be required to attend Induction and training on 6th to 8th July. Attendance is compulsory.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Support in the delivery of YHA Activity Camps ensuring that all participants have a positive, enjoyable experience.
  • Work effectively with the Camp Manager, activity providers, Hostel teams and National Office teams to ensure the smooth running of camp.
  • Ensure Volunteers are fully trained, inducted to site and are managed effectivity to support the summer camp activities.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating volunteers to ensure all camp duties are covered.
  • Act in accordance with YHA safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all camp participants.
  • Support the camp manager with the safety and wellbeing of camp participants and staff, escalating serious incidents and liaising with the Hostel Manager and SSHEW about all safeguarding.
  • Liaise and communicate with parents/guardians when necessary as per YHA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all relevant administration and processes are adhered to, in-line with YHA Summer Camps Operations manual.
  • Work with partner organisations (RAF) to ensure a positive relationship and that they are fully informed and consulted where necessary as per YHA Summer Camp
  • Operations Manual.
  • Assist the Camp Manager in effectively managing the accommodation and bed allocation of camp participants to ensure they are sharing appropriately.

Person specification:

  • Previous experience delivering  summer camps or similar activity based programmes in a residential setting
  • Confident in the delivery of a wide range of activities that will appeal to young people of varying ages.
  • Previous experience working with young people and volunteers, supporting them to engage in activatesPrevious experience of providing pastoral care
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to coordinate and motivate teams to achieve common goals.
  • The ability to identify and utilize strengths within a team to help deliver an excellent experience to summer camp guests.
  • Confident communicator with a personable and professional manner and the ability to interact and relate to all levels.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to communicate plans effectively.
  • Proven ability to manage high pressured environments, where there may be significant peaks in work load demands.
  • Possess a good knowledge of YHA and the activity industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding processes
