Apprentice Gardener

Overview:

Fantastic opportunity maintaining the grounds of this magnificent Country House set in 186 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland with an 18 hole Golf Course whilst obtaining an Intermediate City & Guilds in Horticulture. 2 year fixed contract.

Due to our rural location you will need your own transport.

The role:

• To work alongside the Head Gardener and other members of the team to ensure that the Estate is maintained to the highest standard with regard to presentation and safety.
• Day release to College to gain City and Guilds in Horticulture.
• To be knowledgeable of all hotel facilities and to inform/sell these when asked about them by guests.
• To ensure good working relationships with colleagues and other departments.

Your training:

Supported and guided by a mentor, training will include: estate management, soft and hard landscaping, routine maintenance, fencing, raising nursery stock, seasonal planting, hanging baskets and displays, indoor plants, hedge cutting, top dressing, maintaining paths, irrigation, mowers/machinery, cutting greens, tees, fairway, Health and Safety and more.

Completing an Apprenticeship at Ashdown Park Hotel will qualify you up to be able to work in a wide variety of Gardening/Grounds Person roles in the future. There could be the possibility of a full time post upon completion of the apprenticeship although this is not guaranteed.

Attributes/Experience

• Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
• Able to demonstrate a keen interest in garden maintenance and an interest in horticulture.
• Flexible, co-operative and ready to work in a team environment.
• Must enjoy outdoor working.
• Physically fit.
