The packaging landscape is seeing rapid transformation and as we take our next steps in terms of products design, collaboration with suppliers and sustainability commitments we have an amazing opportunity to drive the packaging agenda
As a Buying Manager for Product packaging you will develop and execute packaging strategies, encompassing the identification and negotiation of mutually beneficial commercial packaging initiatives with suppliers and coordinating the delivery of our sustainability goals on the packaging front
You will have to stay up to speed with the changing market landscape and best practices, visit suppliers, assess capabilities & KPI's and think creatively to identify packaging areas of improvement...all while taking accountability for driving results
This role offers packaging expertise, Procurement experience, Suppliers relationship management,  Cross-category experience, Accountability for delivery of results, End-to-end project leadership and Innovation.
You will work closely with our Buying, Customer, Product development and Packaging technologist teams.

Main Responsibilities
- Building a best in class, long term sourcing plan that is aligned to the Sell and Move plan and that uses our scale competitively
- Finding, developing and managing suppliers, to deliver our customer propositions and our joint business targets whilst ensuring that product quality is achieved & maintained. 
- Effectively managing commodity and currency risk and negotiating a sustainable, market leading commercial position
- Supporting my department's trade, promotions and events plan, through sourcing efficiently, striving to exceed KPI forecasts and drive footfall 
- Forecasting and managing my budgets effectively.  Delivering quantum profit targets.  Always being cost conscious.  
- Supporting the Move Plan, ensuring we get our products to store efficiently, cost effectively and on time.
- Developing and leading a high performing team, giving them the opportunities to be their best
- Adhering to all Tesco policies, storage and hand-over protocols and successfully completing all my training so that I have zero GSCOP breaches.  Ensuring all agreements are recorded in writing, reporting GSCOP complaints to Legal within 48 hours of receipt, and leading a culture of compliance within my team
- Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence

The Ideal Candidate
This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced buyer or packaging specialist looking to continue to grow their skills and knowledge with a new cross-category experience.
Understanding of packaging industry and the manufacturing environment
Strong communication skills and commercially minded
Ability to work cross-functionally and take ownership to drive results
Experience in an FMCG or retail environment advantageous
Having a proven track record of stakeholder management, building and maintaining internal and external relationships
