Fleet Environmental Compliance Officer - Fleet - Ship Based

Carnival UK is looking to appoint a Fleet Environmental Compliance Officer to work onboard their fleet of luxury cruise ships.  Reporting to the shore side Environmental Compliance Manager, the Fleet Environmental Officer is responsible for assessing, verifying and reporting onboard compliance within the Carnival UK Fleet providing remedial onboard support and guidance as required. They will also conduct third party audits of waste vendors and support with external audits such as ISO 14001. This role will require extensive travel between ships.

 

Drawing on your previous environmental management experience, you will be required to provide technical support including onboard machinery space inspections against the Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) requirements, reviewing onboard compliance and equipment certificates and reporting back any obstacles to shore side management. Your role will involve planned and adhoc ships visits to support incident investigations audits and inspections, monitoring effective implementation of environmental and technical policies and procedures as required by ECP, ISO 14001 and fleet regulations. You will also be required to manage and assess the performance and ability of the CUK fleet’s Environmental Officer’s  (EO) including space inspections and compliance support, visiting all Environmental Officers serving on ships at least once per year. Assisting with Environmental Officer recruitment when require and CUK environmental training programmes, providing support and suggestions to Carnival UK regarding improvement and implementation of the HESS-MS Environmental procedures.

You will have an environmental and/or engineering background with experience of audits, preferably within the maritime sector. You will be required to have management experience and hands on approach. You will have proven ability to take ownership of any issues that arise. You will have excellent communication skills along with a proactive and positive approach to protecting the environment.

To be successful, you will have:

  • An Environmental degree or equivalent or licensed engineer holding a Class II Certificate of Competency
  • Experience of conducting audits
  • Experience managing and leading a team
  • Proven experience of a proactive and positive approach to protecting the environment and assuring compliance with the environmental management system
  • Work to a high level of accuracy and enjoy a “hands on” approach together with the ability to take ownership of any issues that may arise
  • Excellent communication, management and organisation skills
  • Experience in providing work based training
  • Experience of waste minimization/waste management
  • Experience of risk assessments and environmental audits
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in developing training material
  • Understanding of global Marine environmental legislation is also very desirable.
