Internal Communications Business Partner - London

Department: Chelsea FC Communications Team

Place of work: Chelsea FC Stamford Bridge and travel to Cobham Training Ground

Reporting to: Media Editor

Job Function: To act as a the lead on internal communications activities in the organisation using a variety of mediums an channel to engage, Inspire, motivate and inform colleagues Club-wide. Support the cultural development of the Club and the engagement agenda.

Main responsibilities:

  • Working with senior management establish a plan for internal communications spanning the Club and ensuring all groups of colleagues are represented.
  • Become an integral part and key contributor to the culture and engagement agenda and support the establishment and delivery of plans in these areas.
  • Ensure the organisation has multiple mediums to communicate messages and keep colleagues informed on both day-to-day messages and at times when evolving / critical situations occur.
  • Develop, write and deliver content gained from multiple sources – through senior management, a network of contributors, the external communications team, and across departments and business units within the Club. Use expertise to storyboard ideas with contributors and translate these ideas into content and design.
  • Develop, design and establish the layout of content to ensure a clean, clear and high quality approach to internal communications across, for example, intranet, magazines, bulletins, emails, and social media.
  • Utilise opportunities such as induction to raise awareness around the Club, the history, the goals and the future.
  • Ensure internal messaging is consistent with Club’s external communications.
  • Develop, organise and lead on internal events and activities working with key stakeholders, such as the CEO, Chief HR Officer and Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
  • Develop a method of two-way communication and manage messages and responses to colleagues, ensuring timely feedback.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in internal communication and keep up to date on methods and channels of communication.
  • Act as a key contributor and delivery point to any projects where an internal communications work stream is identified.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable experience of working with others in large, matrixed organisations and successfully designing and delivering measureable projects and programmes which bring cultural change and improve engagement
  • Experience of implementing internal communications initiatives within a commercial environment, with multiple stakeholders and agendas
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy coupled with IT skills
  • Excellent writing skills with a demonstrable experience of writing, content development, editing, proof reading and the ability to source and cultivate stories from the internal network
  • Excellent verbal skills and an ability to present and craft messages that are sensitive to the organisation. Demonstrate a confident and persuasive communication style which adapts to the audience
  • An individual with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and networks with the ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence.
  • Evidence of creative ability and digital skills is key.
  • Assertive, self-starter who works effectively and efficiently whilst demonstrating resilience and responsiveness to issues in a rapidly changing environment.  An ability to work with senior stakeholders to persuade and challenge in the face of resistance and ambiguity.
  • Excellent team working skills, which embody proactivity, enthusiasm and a hands on approach.
  • Passionate about communication, people, sport and entertainment.
  • Appreciation and experience of working with sensitive and confidential information.

Qualifications

Essential                    

  • Degree in journalism, PR or marketing
  • Experience working in Internal Communications
  • Experience of managing complex projects and stakeholders
  • Experience of writing and communicating with different types of audience.

Desirable

  • Minimum A level or equivalent in relevant subjects
  • Professional qualification – CIPR or CIM
