Chef Apprenticeship Programme 2018 Alexandria

Hours: Full time; Various hours

Salary: Competitive Salary & Benefits Package

Do you love cooking?  Can you create dishes that taste and look delicious?  Do you know your sirloin from your rib-eye?  Our kitchen teams are passionate about food and understand that great cooking enhances the customer experience, meaning more repeat business.  As an Apprentice Chef you will be trained in all areas of the kitchen from dishwashing to culinary skills and assisting at large events.  You will learn all there is to know about behind the scenes and that the ingredient to success is teamwork and communication.

Career advancement is the ultimate goal and Loch Lomond Golf Club is offering a 22 month Apprenticeship Programme combining on-the-job- learning and work based assessments leading to an NVQ qualification and personal development.  At Loch Lomond Golf Club we see the Apprenticeship Programme as not just training but as a custom-made programme, tailored and shaped in order to support an enthusiastic person with a passion for food who wants a rewarding hospitality career.

We are looking for a young person aged (not in full-time education) to train to become a professional chef working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills.  It's a structured programme requiring hard graft and dedication to reach the end goal, but it is a transformational journey.

The 2018 Programme runs from March 2018 to December 2020.  The successful candidate will start in March 2018 when the Golf season begins.

The Apprentice, while at Loch Lomond Golf Club, is trained across a number of sections of the kitchen:

  • Hot and Cold Larder preparation
  • Starters and Salads
  • Bakery
  • Breakfast
  • Fish
  • Butchery
  • Sauces
  • Food Preparation
  • Meats and Grill
  • Pasta
  • Pastry and Desserts

Over the course of the year, as the Apprentice Chef develops in confidence and skill, they move between our Spikes Bar kitchen (where the food is brasserie style) to the Rossdhu Dining kitchen (Fine Dining and catering for high-end events).  In both kitchens the Apprentice is under the watchful eyes of the Head and Sous Chefs who will ensure the training fits personal requirements and meets the skills needed for the job and to satisfy national standards.

The Apprentice Chef has the opportunity to learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning a salary at the same time.  They will be working toward a work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and/or other nationally recognised qualifications.  The benefits of our Apprenticeship Programme at Loch Lomond Golf Club are:-

  • earning a salary
  • receiving paid holidays
  • receiving quality training
  • gaining qualifications
  • learning job-specific skills

Following this, the Apprentice will not only have gained a passion for food and the skills needed to become a competent chef, but will be well set to carve out a career in this industry.

The staff benefits package includes uniform, meals, gratuities, golf, and social club events.  Accommodation may be available if required - please advise us on your application if this is the case.

Applicants must have the means to travel to and from the Golf Club and have the right to live and work in the UK.
