We are currently searching for a Regional Health and Safety Officer to join our business. As this role is regional, ideally you will be currently based in the Essex Area outside of the M25. Covering Norfolk and down to the South Coast.

Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, you will join a team committed to the highest standards of safety and drive health and safety matters on a range of sites and businesses throughout the Group, whilst ensuring that we are compliant with our own policies and procedures alongside current legislation.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Provide support, advice, training and guidance to retail management and employees about health and safety issues and risks
  • Liaising with Area Managers on compliance and risk reduction challenges
  • Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced
  • Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
  • Carrying out regular Construction and other site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
  • Monitor contractor and sub-contractor behaviour when visiting company premises
  • Prepare and write up audit reports with the necessary remedial actions to ensure full compliance with health and safety obligations and of those within the Equalities Act
  • Submit reports in a timely manner, working in partnership with the Health & Safety Coordinator and Head Office team
  • Managing your own time productively and effectively, including travel commitments and office days
  • Work with shared schedules for inspections, audits and reviews.
  • Having flexibility to amend travel plans or visits at short notice, to accommodate the needs of the business
  • Undertake Fire Risk Assessments and reviews, provide recommendations, prepare and write up the reports with the necessary remedial actions to ensure full compliance with the RR (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Training staff in fire safety (Fire Wardens) and the safe use of evacuation chairs
  • Liaising with Fire Authorities and Local Authorities, as and when required
  • Carrying our accident/near miss investigations and collate written reports, witness statements and photographic evidence with a view to establishing causation and providing ways in which to prevent any recurrence

To be considered for this role, the successful candidate must have:

  • Significant experience working in the Retail sector, be a committed team player with good interpersonal skills and have a positive approach to site safety
  • Excellent administration and organisational skills including strong verbal and written English.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks along with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint programmes
  • Hold a clean full driving license.
  • Must hold a minimum qualification of the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, or an equivalent Level 3 safety qualification.
  • Fire Risk Assessors qualifications to BAFE or IFE standards
  • Have sound knowledge and practical experience of completing risk assessments at all levels, including those linked to COSHH.
  • Proven ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Possess strong communication skills, with the ability to present and deliver training effectively
