Are you looking for a career at a great pub serving classic pub dishes within an established company? Great! We are currently recruiting for a motivated and driven Kitchen Manager to join our team.

The Vine is currently part of McMullen’s McFayre concept offering our guests full table service, a classic British seasonal pub menu alongside weekly changing Specials which the Kitchen Manager is tasked with preparing.  Whilst we offer a selection of specials to choose from, this no way limits your creative flare and our Kitchen Managers are encouraged to design their own specials to put their name to.  We are proud of our reputation for great quality food and exceptional service, therefore finding the right Kitchen Manager to join our friendly team is essential.


The Vine is minutes from the motorways and is one of the first things you see when leaving it and entering Waltham Cross.  In its current form, The Vine has been a McMullen house since 1982, however, the original pub dates back to 1933. With an exciting £800k development planned for the next few months, The Vine is in an era of change and any applicant must be ready for this and able to lead a large team post development. 


We are currently operating a 55/45 drink led split, however, a year ago this sat at 60/40 so we are currently trending with an increase in food which is our main focus.  Whilst delivering stable and sales in huge YOY growth, due to a vast garden with over 30 tables, The Vine can get incredibly busy during the summer period currently delivering cover on average of 800 meals per week this quarter (varying from 675 – 1002) so the ability to remain calm under unexpected pressure and to be able to lead a team to do the same is essential.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • The ability to cook and present dishes, in line with specification, in a fast paced environment.
  • The capability to deliver food GP% to budget.
  • Experience in stocktaking and management of stock control.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exemplary standards of personal hygiene and presentation.
  • Impeccable cleanliness standards to maintain our 5* rating.
  • The ability to recruit, train and coach junior team members.
  • A strong understanding of food health and safety and allergen control.

Previous experience of working within a busy kitchen is essential. You must be keen to develop, willing to take on responsibility and remain calm under pressure. You will also need to be eligible to work in the UK with a valid UK bank account and NI number.
