The primary purpose of this role is for the financial accounting and reporting of the capital assets and applying the group's capital accounting policies with CUK. Our Capital assets have a net book value of £2.3 billion and includes 11 ships across our 2 brands, P&O and Cunard. This role will interact with other Finance staff, who provide Finance Business Partner support to the operational departments of the business, as well as directly with Project Managers, mainly within IT and Maritime Operations.
Our new P&O ship, the largest in the UK market, will join the fleet in 2020 and our fourth Queen will join our Cunard fleet so this role would cover the Capital accounting for both of these ships.
The role sits in the Crew, Maritime and Capital team, which have overall responsibility for the financial reporting for ship operations.

Main responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all aspects of financial accounting and reporting of capital assets (NBV of £2.3bn, annual CapEx of £30m - £150m pa and depreciation of £100m pa), including application of group accounting policies and maintenance of the Oracle Fixed Asset ledger (OFA).
  • Manage, control and develop the Capital processes within Carnival UK.
  • Act as point of expertise with respect to application of the group's Corporate Accounting policies, primarily advising other finance staff but also provide direct advice to non-finance staff.
  • Responsible for set up of new assets within Oracle Fixed Assets (OFA), including determination of appropriate asset lives in accordance with group policy, monthly depreciation and loss on disposal accounting.
  • Review journals and balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis for capital accounts.
  • Responsible for SOX controls relating to Capital accounting.
  • Effectively manage, lead and develop the team
Requirements:
  • Qualified Financial Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) with at least 2 years post qualified experience
  • General finance, financial reporting and accounting experience
  • Experience of financial systems
  • Proven success in managing a team
  • A knowledge of SOX, IFRS and/or US GAAP, and SAP would be useful but not essential
