What annoys you the most in applications and interviews?
When you interview people who haven't bothered to find out anything about the Company; people who arrive late without a good reason; people who turn up in jeans and dirty old trainers -are you trying to show me that you want the job or not!!
What is your top tip when applying for a job?
Take time getting your CV up-to-date, and don't make it longer than two sides of A4. If invited in for an interview, make an effort to learn five things about the Company. Dress smartly!
What was your biggest nightmare interview?
In a previous job role, a candidate had not answered a section on the application form relating to ‘unspent' convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. When questioned further, the candidate informed me that he had just got out of prison after completing a sentence for stabbing his girlfriend!
What is your favourite interview question?
I've interviewed many people for this role, why should I choose you?
What is your favourite form of exercise?
At the moment it's cycling through the countryside, but that will change when it starts to rain!
How often do you get a chance to work out?
3 times a week
Is there anything you are aiming to implement this year for staff or management that you are not currently doing?
Pension schemes
More in-house training
What is your favourite food?
A traditional Sunday roast with all of the trimmings!
How many staff are there working for your organisation?
260
How did you get involved in the fitness industry?
By accident! I was sent a job specification for the role that I'm currently in and I thought that it looked challenging, so I applied and here I am!
Approximately how many CVs does your organisation receive in the average week?
Up to 20 CV's in a week. When we advertise vacancies, we receive more.
What is your favourite animal?
Dogs
What are the most difficult staff to recruit?
Female instructors with an exercise to music qualification and more than two years experience of teaching.
What is the thing you like most about the health and fitness industry?
It's so friendly -people are really nice and the environment is more relaxed than what I have been used to in previous roles.
