What is the most common mistake made in applications and interviews?
Poor spelling and grammar in applications. Lack of preparation in interviews.
What annoys you the most in applications and interviews?
People that do not turn up for interviews, and do not call to cancel.
What is your top tip when applying for a job?
Do your homework. Find out as much as you can about the company/organisation that you are applying to.
What was your biggest nightmare interview?
I can't remember having a nightmare!!
What is your most embarrassing interview moment?
Can't think of one of those either!
What is your most embarrassing exercise outfit/garment you have worn?
Probably only sweatbands - on my wrists of course!
What is your favourite form of exercise?
Tennis & mountain biking.
How often do you get a chance to work out?
Tennis, 2 x week in season. Mountain bike 1 x week. Gym visit as and when!
What do you see as the biggest problem facing recruiters in the fitness industry and what measures do you think will help overcome them?
The leisure industry is growing at a fast rate, there are becoming more and more companies and therefore a large number of positions available. You must ensure that you offer the best package and the most opportunity for career advancement and training/development.
Is there anything you are aiming to implement this year for staff or management that you are not currently doing e.g. new training in house?
This financial year has seen implementation of our management bonus scheme. Managers can earn a percentage of their salary extra if they meet the required criteria.
What do you think is the best job going in the UK fitness industry?
At the moment I enjoy the job that I am doing, but I wouldn't mind being a personal trainer to George Clooney!

How did you get involved in the fitness industry?
I have always enjoyed sport throughout my life and therefore at college I did a Sport & Exercise Science degree. I started in the industry as a Lifestyle Consultant and through training and experience worked my way up to Club Manager and now my present role as Recruitment Officer.

Between 50-150

Dolphin, for their beauty, intelligence and athleticism.
What is the thing you like most about the health and fitness industry?
Your working time is your client's leisure time, which makes it a friendly & relaxed environment to be working within.
What is the thing you like least about the health and fitness industry?
The unsociable hours and having to work weekends!
