Staying Motivated at work
The tips we offer here will help you jump up, dust yourself down and get
yourself back on track with raised morale, productivity and performance.
- Firstly, don’t panic and think you need to move jobs, have
a career change or that you are going to get fired. It’s perfectly normal to
have periods of lower motivation. Just as quickly as its crept up on you, it
will leave, but you have to control it not let it control YOU.
- Clarify your goals. If you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve, you
are much more likely to stay focussed and happy. It will also ensure you don’t
waste time on unimportant tasks and becoming deflated but spend time on those
projects that impact the bigger picture.
- If you know your
goals, you can then plan how to get there. Simply put, have your own personal
gameplan. Ensure the plan is broken up into manageable chunks with clear
milestones, that are challenging, but achievable. Reaching goals and completing
tasks successfully is an endorphin for many.
- Enjoy your success
and use it to push you on further. Sounds simple doesn’t it, but praise or
success really does drive you on, giving you extra spurts of motivation and
energy. It can be a little addictive, especially for those competitive types out
there.
- Keep things in perspective – this is sound advise for
all avenues of your life and in your career, we are really just saying, remember
why you work, (to upskill, to help others, to fill your bank balance....) and
remember there are other things in your life that are important to you.
- Negativity is an energy drainer, so avoid it. Attitude is very
impacting, so delve deep for your positive beans. Use music, books, inspiring
people and success stories in your life to help you get there. Laughter is the
best medicine.
