Cornwall

You don’t need logistics experience to be an Operations manager at Royal Mail. Why? Because the main thing we’re looking for from our Operations managers is the ability to lead and coach a team. We need people who know how to motivate. People who know how to inspire. And people who have what it takes to adapt to a changing market. So if you’re a fantastic people manager with plenty of resilience and experience, it doesn’t matter which sector you’ve worked in, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

As an Operations manager, you’ll have accountability for leading a team of postwomen and men in one of our 1400 operational units around the country. In one of our smaller units this might be a team of 20- 60 people, or up to 120 in one of our medium sized units – and depending on the size of the team, you may also be supported by line managers. Either way you’ll be responsible for making sure your unit runs as efficiently as possible – which means making sure the mail is collected, sorted and delivered six days a week. You’ll motivate your team to manage and improve our performance, and exceed targets. As well as effectively and efficiently resourcing your unit, you’ll also oversee key safety, people, customer, performance and financial measures, and build relationships with trade union representatives. It’s a big job. But we’ll provide you with thorough training and support to ensure that you have all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.

About you

It takes more than organisational skills to be a great manager. We’re looking for hands on individuals with a passion for people. You’ll provide coaching and advice, while keeping your operation running smoothly. Your background could be in any sector, including logistics, retail, hospitality or FMCG – it’s your ability to motivate, inspire and lead that we’re looking for. You’ll have an eye for detail and be confident in efficiently managing resources and budgets – all with a view to ensuring your team is performing to its very best.
