What it's like to work here

Longshaw and Ilam Park are wonderful places to discover the spectacular Peak District, with it's ancient woods, parkland and heather moorland. With so much to see and do we encourage our visitors to engage with the outdoors in these stunning settings, through excellent walking at Longshaw or exploring the Hall and Park at Ilam.

You’ll be working across the Peak District, based at Longshaw or Ilam Park. Working across these sites, setting up and co-ordinating sports events and activities you'll need to be flexible and willing to travel .

What you'll be doing

You’ll be responsible for the planning and day to day management of the sport development programme at Longshaw and Illam Park, assisting in the delivering and co-ordination of the sport programme ensuring it is innovative and site appropriate. Delivering an exceptional service for our visitors you’ll enable outstanding and inspirational experiences for everyone involved.

You will be part of the Sport Development Team in the Peak District and also the national team of Sports Development Officers. You may be required to supervise a small team of staff and volunteers. You'll work effectively alongside local sports networks and volunteers in order to provide a high quality service in line with the aims and aspirations of the Peak District and the National Trust.

You’ll also be responsible for identifying new opportunities for income generation and external funding whilst considering long term sustainability.

Who we're looking for

To deliver this role successfully you will have:

  • Good people skills enabling strong relationships both internally and externally, to be built and maintained.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
  • An understanding of the volunteer journey in the Trust including being able to support volunteers to perform at their best
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT literate and able to use digital media (and other marketing channels) effectively.

And it will be helpful if you can demonstrate the following experience on your CV/application;

  • Some experience of planning and delivering inspirational sports activities and events that help build or strengthen visitors’ connections with nature and the outdoors and are in line with our strategy and vision
  • Practical experience in sports development and a clear understanding of the sports sector.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety compliance requirements and experience of producing risk assessments for day to day operations
