Outdoor Spaces - Participation Co-Ordinator up to £35k , Newham, East London



I am looking for a candidate to take on the lead role for encouraging and driving leisure, sporting and cultural participation across a large number of parks, open spaces and community areas in Newham, East London. This is a really exciting and challenging role that will see you working very closely with the sports development team in building and developing partnerships with a wide range of sporting clubs, community groups and schools to ensure that both the sports pitches and parks are utilised to a significantly greater extent throughout the peak periods of spring and summer. This is a fantastic opportunity an individual who is passionate about working within sport and leisure in the community, the initiatives that you will be programming and managing are provided at no cost to the local residents as this role is all about encouraging participation and to help and support the local community to become more active.



You will be leading on a number of programs that are already well established including the Coca Cola Zero initiative which enables the Council to put on a wide range of sports coaching, fitness and holistic classes and cultural events for the community across numerous parks in the borough as well as on occasions the Olympic Park. Your role will be to coordinate the activities and the coaches and to ensure that all of the attendees data are captured with the aim that these initiatives will lead to further engagement across the local leisure centres and sports clubs in the borough. You will also be the lead contact for a large number of running clubs and events including Park Run and Buggy Run. As part of the role you will also be responsible for overseeing a number of allotments across the borough where you will liaise with the Society Co-ordinators and ensure plots are achieving optimal occupancy and engagement and that anti-social behaviour is minimised.



You will also be responsible for making grant applications for funding as well as drawing down monies from the Council to expand the range of facilities available within the parks and open spaces. Examples of this would include the installation of 4G pitches and basketball courts and creating new open spaces.



We are ideally looking to talk to candidates who have a sports development or associated degree and who have had previous experience running similar participation or engagement initiatives within and inner City environment. You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders across the borough as well as numerous sports and community groups.



The position is immediately available, the role is Monday to Friday with the occasional need to work some weekends to manage the bigger community events and initiatives.
