General Manager - The Grey Horse

Here at Hydes, we are not only a pub operator but we also brew our own beer, and have over 150 years of history and heritage.

We are now looking to recruit to our management team at The Grey Horse in Manchester, to enhance our strong team, and help us be the best at what we do, and ensure ‘excellence is a habit’.

The Site

Located on Portland Street, in the heart of Manchester City Centre, is our smallest site across the estate and one in which stakes the claim of being the second smallest pub in town. It is a very vibrant City Centre site

Whilst it is indeed compact it only adds to the warm and welcoming character inside. The unique and inviting atmosphere boosts regulars and passers-by, serving a wide selection of cask ales, wines and spirits.

The Role

The General Manager is a key role in making the Grey Horse a success.

With this in mind you need to be something special. It goes without saying that you'll have the basics

  • You may be a new or aspiring manager but you will have experience of working in sites with a wet led turnover of at least 6Knet a week.
  • You have previous experience of managing or assisting with the management of a City Centre wet led site and have the ability to drive sales.
  • You are super organised, you have tight control on cash and tills, manage your controllable costs, and your returns are always impeccable and returned on time
  • You actively control stock rotation and achieve your targeted wet GP
  • You accurately forecast your payroll and stay within budget
  • You actively comply with H&S requirements including fire procedures and record keeping

  • You will be a great host and networker – particularly ensuring that the locals feel at home in your pub
  • You can quickly establish yourself at the site
  • Your analysis of all the data at your disposal
  • Your ability to harness the power of social media and other digital tools to market your business
  • Your knack of recruiting the right staff and motivating them to perform to your very high standards (even when you're not around!)
  • You are a stickler for detail and lead by example to ensure that service standards are amazing at all times.

This is a live-in role with free accommodation, which consists of 2 bedrooms, living room and bathroom.

Bills are also paid for other than council tax and TV licence which must be paid by the Manager/ Management Couple. This site also comes with a parking space, which is paid for as part of your bills, but would be taxable.
