Fitness & Lifestyle Advisor - Livingston & Dunfermline

Reporting to: Health & Fitness Manager

Location: This role will cover our locations in Livingston and Dunfermline

Hours: This role will involve working a variety of shift patterns including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Typical shifts are 06:00 - 14:00, 07:00 - 15:00 and 11:00 - 19:00.

Contract: 3 Months with Potential to go permanent

Purpose of role

As a Fitness & Lifestyle Advisor you will provide an exceptional level of fitness floor supervision and personal programming, designed to improve the health and well being of the Fitness Centre members.

Key Requirements

To assist in the day-to-day safe and effective operation of the centre and to ensure that you offer a professional service at all times in compliance with Sky’s H&FC guidelines and objectives. You will also be expected to assume responsibility of the facility in the absence of your line manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure a professional service is maintained at all times in compliance with Sky’s H&FC guidelines and objectives. These will include:

Services

  • Ensure that all members have received the opportunity to a personal programme or induction before using the H&FC. All membership records are kept confidential and up to date.
  • To ensure all exercise programmes adhere to the H&FC protocols at all times and in particular with regards to special populations.
  • To perform fitness assessments as and when required.
  • Provide re-programmes and re-tests/screenings for members every 3 months or as per the agreed protocols set by Sky.
  • Pro-actively monitor the gym floor by offering assistance and support with exercise programmes and technique or advice on training and lifestyle needs.
  • Ensure that the procedures for referring individuals are always correctly followed without exception.
  • Assist in formulating and delivering health/fitness related promotions that increase the knowledge, motivation and awareness of all employees to a wide range of health issues as well as actively promoting usage levels.
  • To assist in developing and managing a programme of sports and social events throughout the year designed at increasing employee awareness of the centre and encouraging as many employees as possible to participate in these activities. From time to time you will be expected to participate or facilitate in these events.
  • To teach a spin class and any additional classes depending on qualifications as and when required.

Customer Service

  • To ensure exceptionally high levels of cleanliness within the centre.
  • To be well-presented and professional in appearance. Where issued, you must be attired in Sky corporate wear that should be clean and ironed.
  • To deliver a high standard of customer service at all times. This includes interacting with and motivating members who use the centre. Responsibility to ensure that all members receive acknowledgment by a member of staff upon arrival, during their visit and when leaving.

Health and Safety

  • To ensure the safety and control of all members within the centre by ensuring all relevant rules and regulations applicable to the centre’s operation are enforced.
  • To ensure that all relevant statutory health and safety codes of practice are adhered to and have a full understanding of the Sky “Health & Safety Manual”.
  • Ensure all centre equipment is properly maintained and all preventative and recording measures and procedures are properly applied and recorded. This will include cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • If first aid qualified, administer first aid where appropriate or seek professional help following the Sky’s guidelines. You must have an up to date Emergency First Aid Qualification / First Aid at Work Qualification.

Administration

  • To process membership payments utilising the selected software system and to ensure an accurate and systematic approach at all times in line with the established guidelines.

General

  • To assist the Manager in the day-to-day safe and effective operation of the centre and assume responsibility of the facility when you are the only supervisor.
  • Ensure all mobile/locum instructors are properly inducted so they are aware of systems and procedures that ensure the effective running of the centre during absence.
  • To be responsible for proactively developing your knowledge, skills and understanding of issues relating to your role. To achieve this you will be expected to attend training courses and meetings as organised by Sky. From time to time these days will be organised outside of normal working hours.
  • In addition to these functions, employees are required to carry out other such duties as may reasonably be required.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • A level 3 fitness instructor qualification (e.g. Premier /Lifetime Diploma).

Experience

Essential

  • A strong fitness background.
  • Experience working in a corporate/commercial Fitness environment

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of ECW protocols and procedures.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Competent IT skills (Basic MS Word/ Excel).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to teach circuit based classes.
  • Able to perform fitness assessments/ adhere to strict company protocols

Desirable

  • Ability to teach a variety of additional classes as and when required.
