Assistant Manager - Kedleston Country House

Who are we?

We are Derby’s local brewer with an award winning beer across every Beer Style, a family run craft business with over 30 years brewing expertise in producing handcrafted premium real ales. We see a growing pub estate as a crucial part of our growth plans, to date we have acquired and fully renovated three pubs winning numerous awards.  

We are passionate about quality and individuality, each of our venues are individual with their own style, drink and food offering. Our current venues include a specialist drinks pub (The Tap), a quirky city centre venue (Greyhound) focused around craft beer and street food and a destination cosy village pub (Queens Head) focused around great drinks and tasty Gastro style food.  

Across all our venues we are passionate about food and only produce & sell fresh, homemade food, which is made from scratch using the finest locally sourced ingredients. 

The Kedleston Country House is something completely different, located on the Kedleston estate in a grand Georgian building designed in a modern country house style, the venue includes a relaxed drinking area, a 75 cover restaurant, an Orangery suitable for private hire, weddings or additional restaurant space of 75 covers. In addition there will be a formal Georgian Gardens capable of housing Marquee Weddings of up to 200 guests, there is also five boutique bedrooms.

The role

Are you passionate about great drinks, fantastic food and excellent service, you will be responsible for assistant the General Manager in overall running of the venue, working with the senior management team being comfortable both across the bar and floor. The role includes all aspects involved in day to day running of the venue, ensuring guests have a consistent experience every time, the ideal candidate must have a passion for drinks, understanding of the cellar management and be comfortable with the back office aspect of the role. In addition you will have input into the strategic direction of the site through your manager. As a fast growing company we look to promote from within so would be looking for a candidate with experience and ambitions to progress into a manager role in the future.

Who are we looking for?

An experienced front of house professional, who used to a premium high quality retail offer, who is enthusiastic & passionate about offering great service and consistently quality food and drinks to all our guests. A hard working motivated and committed individual, with great attention to detail, good numeracy & language skills, who thrives in a busy environment, whilst still finding time to offer great service every time. With experience of at least floor supervision and bar supervision in high quality food led venues, whilst also possessing strong cellar management skills. A track record of hitting both sales and wage management targets combined with a track record in delivering excellent customer service. A real passion for drinks with extensive beer, wine and spirit knowledge and a genuine interest in cocktails, qualifications will be looked on favourably although training will be given for the right candidate.

A great people person with excellent communication skills, who is hands on and enjoys working from the front, capable of leading and inspiring a team. A passion for quality, initiative & a good sense of humour are all vital.

Responsibilities of the role

Ensuring service standards are always maintained and guests always receive a great consistent experience time after time. Day to day running and input into the strategic direction of the business, using initiative to ensure the business meets its full potential. It is essential that you help develop staff through the business, this will form an important part of your role. Any applicant must always embody the standards for the outlet and strong knowledge and experience in overall drinks, real ale management, service standards, numeracy skills and IT literacy are fundamental to the role.

Hours of work

Due to the nature of the business the candidate must be flexible in terms of hours which will include evening and weekend work.
