Birchwood’s gym is about to undertake a complete transformation with the addition of a swimming pool, spa facilities and new studios in addition to its extensive golf and events facilities.

MAIN DUTIES:
Under the general supervision of Golf Course Manager/Deputy Course Manager, the 1st Assistant Greenkeeper will assist in overseeing the running of the golf course operations, and participate in the various tasks in which he/she is assigned for the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course and property to the highest possible standards utilising all available resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To carry out under direction all the various tasks of Golf Course maintenance to which he/she is assigned.
- The operation of all equipment to the approved standard of use to include equipment hygiene and understanding Health and Safety.
- Assist in the day to day running of the department to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- To lead, train and motivate staff individually and as a team
- Understand fertiliser and pesticide rates, calibrations, procedures and maintain records. Maintain up to dated spraying qualifications
- Assist in maintaining accurate up to date company, weather and all staff training records.
- Maintain good communication between all departments, management and staff.
- Assist in monitoring turf quality, including checking for pests, diseases, soil moisture and thatch levels.
- To motivate and lead the team by example. Taking responsibility of teamwork situations ensuring standards and time scales of work are maintained.
- Assisting in various course project works to include aeration, turfing, seeding, landscaping etc.
- General maintenance and understanding of greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers.
- General maintenance and understanding of drainage work, including ditch maintenance.
- Responsible for maintenance and hygiene of allocated equipment for the days tasks.
- General maintenance and upkeep of the maintenance facility, equipment and tools
- Watering to include hand watering and basic irrigation maintenance as directed.
- Report to work at the designated time as directed. Work starting times are subject to change depending on the time of year and business requirements.
- Complies with BGL personnel policies and procedures and health and safety procedures
- To undertake any further duties as requested by the management
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
- Employee is regularly required to stand and walk outdoors
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings and weekends
