Catering Manager

Job Summary:

Aberdeen Sports Village wishes to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic individual to complement its busy Operations Team. The Catering Manager should have a friendly, flexible and welcoming personality; providing high quality and effective leadership within Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) cafes and to ensure the highest standards of service are delivered and maintained. A can-do attitude and flexible approach to business and the task involved should be demonstrated.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate great communication and customer service skills, have a real passion for food and service- including experience within a retail catering operation.

Salary: Grade F, £25,000

Hours of work: 37 hours per week (includes evenings and weekends).

Other relevant information: This appointment will be made subject to the terms and conditions of employment of Aberdeen Sports Village. As it is appropriate to the post, ASV will request a PVG Scheme Record prior to employment, as part of their recruitment procedures.

Duties:

  • You will have strong financial acumen, with the ability to report weekly on budget performance as well as implement and ensure stringent cash procedures are in place within both cafés.
  • Knowledge of current food trends and a passion for quality food.
  • To train and develop all staff working within Aberdeen Sports Village cafes.
  • To ensure effective and efficient communication within areas of responsibility. To work with members of staff to create a good team spirit and to positively motivate staff.
  • To regularly review, in conjunction with the Head of Operations, all aspects of service provision within the cafes and to ensure standards of service are maintained. Also to ensure that the outlet is open during stipulated opening hours offering all products advertised.
  • To organise staff rotas, levels of staff required and to organise cover for sickness and annual leave.
  • To contribute to the provision of stock management supported by appropriate records and control systems.
  • To actively seek and identify opportunities and innovation for business growth and development with focus on latest food trends and best practices.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Health, safety and quality including food hygiene regulations, risk assessments, internal audits, continuous improvement, etc.
  • Knowledge of food, food hygiene (including hazard analysis and critical control points) and food preparation.
  • To be a member of the ASV team and share in the collective responsibility of ensuring the effective operation of the catering team.
  • In order to meet ASV’s operational requirements and to maintain a safe, clean and secure facility you may be required, from time to time, to be flexible in your approach to work and to undertake any other reasonable duties as may be requested by your line manager.

Person Specification:

Education and Qualifications e.g Academic, technical and professional education and training.

Essential:

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Educated to ‘O’/Standard Grade or equivalent level in English.

Desirable:

  • Customer care certificate

Work and other relevant experience (including training). e.g. Specialist knowledge, levels of experience. Skills, supervisory experience, research.

Essential:

  • Good knowledge of current industry trends and experience in catering and hospitality
  • Computer literate
  • Experience of cash handling
  • Supervisory experience

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within the leisure or retail industry
  • Previous experience of using a coffee machine
  • Previous experience in stock control systems
  • Health and safety knowledge

Personal Qualities and Abilities e.g. Initiative, leadership, ability to work on own or with others, communication skills.

Essential:
