The Aspinall Arms sits in the midst of the beautiful Ribble Valley in Lancashire. The pub, which was originally a boathouse serving a ferry across the river, is some 450 years old and is part of the Aspinall estate.

We’re planning a substantial investment to restore the building and grounds to their former splendour. We intend to strip the property back to the core original building, then sensitively re-design the interior, adding extensive new kitchens and customer areas, reopening in the new year as a traditional pub restaurant.

We plan to create a light and airy garden room facing the river, and outside the garden room we intend to construct a large terrace to take advantage of the riverside setting, and landscaping the gardens.

We will be putting a substantial bar at the heart of the building with six cask beers on tap, a back shelf crammed with Malts and a decent but carefully chosen wine list. Throughout the pub you’ll find cosy dining areas, open fires, bookcases and lots of honest old furniture.

Our service style is informal and friendly and this year we’re proud to be recognised by the Good Pub Guide as UK Pub Group of the Year for the fourth time.

Our purpose-built kitchen will be equipped to the highest standard and our chef team will develop a seasonal opening menu with a spine of freshly prepared, classic British dishes, complemented by more exotic influences from other parts of the world – in other words, modern British cookery.

We are looking for experienced Sous Chefs with excellent cooking skills, experience in helping to set and achieve GP percentages and the ability to manage high volumes with the right standards of quality and consistency.

Together with the head chef you will help write the menus, assist in sourcing ingredients from the best suppliers and set and maintain the highest standards of food quality and consistency. You’ll also need to efficiently run service in the head chef’s absence and so your kitchen management and organisational skills will be of paramount importance. This is a vital role in the pub and is an excellent stepping stone on the road to managing your own kitchen.

As a Sous Chef we’ll reward you with a salary package around £24,000 per annum.
