Older People's Activity Co-ordinator - Swindon
Supporting a new project 2 years funded by Zurich Community Trust, GLL is embarking on a new initiative, with the overall focus on upskilling apprenticeships to support the Older People’s programme. We’re looking for a Older People’s Activity Co-ordinator to help us make this pilot scheme a success. This brand new role sits within GLL’s Sport and Communities Team and will be supported by the local Swindon management team.
As an Older People’s Activity Co-ordinator, you’ll be working across all the Better Leisure Facilities in Swindon as well as in care homes and community settings. You’ll support older people to be more active and less socially isolated by delivering a variety of activities, ranging from walking football in a leisure centre to supporting elderly people in a care home to attend a tea dance. Thriving on the variety this role offers, you have the opportunity to make a difference to a community by growing a sustainable Older People’s programme.
As you’ll deliver a wide variety of sessions to older people in the community, you’ll connect the leisure centres with the older community. Engaging with older people to break downs barriers that they may face to be more active can be challenging, but also very inspiring and rewarding too. This is a unique and rewarding role as you’ll deliver a sustainable Older People’s programme through a wide variety of activities increase activity and reduce social isolation in the process.
You’ll have qualifications in delivering exercise classes and experience of working with older people will be key, as you’ll need to understand their needs as well as how best to reach them. A real people-person, you’ll be engaging with excellent communication skills as you create working relationships with a wide variety of partners, both young and old. You’ll have excellent time management and problem solving skills as you’ll meet outcomes and deadlines set by Zurich Community Trust.
Please note this is a fixed-term contract for 2 years.
